Celebrate National Pet Day with Jackson Animal Care Center
JACKSON, Tenn. — Today, April 11, is National Pet Day for all the pet parents.
For those who want to participate in the celebration today and don’t know how, here’s a look.
The Jackson Animal Care Center has fur babies from cats to dogs to even the occasional bird.
“Every once and a while we get guinea pig, rabbits, and sometimes there’s fish and every once in a while or once a year we’ll get a bird or something like that. And they’re always owners surrenders and we never find them stray,” said Michael Ananea, Animal Control Officer for the Jackson Animal Care Center.
Cats can be adopted for forty dollars with dogs costing 80 for the occasional animals those prices varies.
The application however, is simple.
“So our adoption process is actually pretty simple. We’ve got an application and its front and back you fill it out. List whether you own or rent your home and any other pets you’ve got what vets you use and a couple of situational questions,” said Ananea.
Ananea began his start with the Jackson Animal Care Center because of one of his pets.
His dog was originally a neighbor’s pet that he took in and cared for.
“I was a new neighbor looking to help someone out. And got involved with a shelter up here and when called up here I got a hold of our director, Whitney, she was like yeah I got a dog house and a pet food bank and she sent me out with some supplies for him,” said Ananea.
Reminder that it’s always best to adopt local than through breeders.
“It’s one of those things where we’ve gotta keep dogs going out so we continue helping the dogs that are still out there. Cause once we get full there’s only so much we can do with at that point,” said Ananea.
Today is the day to love on your pet more than you normally would or make plans to adopt.
