U of M Lambuth to offer courses to high school students

JACKSON, Tenn. — The University of Memphis Lambuth Campus will offer dual enrollment courses for the first time during the spring 2017 semester. These courses will be open to high school students wanting to get a taste of their next step in education.

School leaders said one of the benefits to taking these courses is that these students would be able to take these classes on campus. That means they’ll be able to interact with other students who are already in the college atmosphere.

“It gives them a first experience about what it’s going to be like, particularly if they come here, because they’re in a classroom with other college students and with college faculty members,” Dr. Reddick said.

Reddick said students must apply for admission through the University of Memphis and submit a high school transcript. The student also must score a 19 or higher on the ACT.

“What we hope is that they stay with us and do a degree here at the Lambuth campus, but certainly they can transfer that credit to the Memphis campus or even to another college or university,” Dr. Reddick said, emphasizing the importance of checking with your desired university about the ability to transfer certain credits.

There is an informational meeting Monday, Nov. 14, in Varnell Jones Hall on the U of M Lambuth Campus. It starts at 6 p.m. and is open to anyone interested in taking these courses.
