JACKSON, Tenn. — Lester Rushton lives in a quiet neighborhood in north Jackson.

“All of a sudden, there’s a big bang, like a bomb went off, and I looked up and there was an automobile in my living room,” he said.

Rushton says he was sitting on his recliner when the car ended up inside his house.

He said if he decided to sit on the couch that evening, the car would have smothered him.

“I believe angels had a wall around me,” he said. “People would just have to see the situation to realize how dangerous it was.”

Rushton said there were three people in the car at the time of the incident. What caused the vehicle to run through his backyard into his home is under investigation.

Neighbors say a similar incident happened before.

“Three months ago, my neighbors actually got their car ran over by a truck in the middle of the night that hopped the ditch,” James Henthorne, a resident of the neighborhood, said.

Members of Rushton’s church came by to help with cleanup. They also held a prayer session that night outside of his home.

Rushton says even though it is an unfortunate incident, he is just happy no one was hurt.

“Life shouldn’t be worrying about what could happen,” he said.  “If I come through this, I can come through just about everything else.”

The person driving the vehicle did later come back to Rushton’s home to apologize.

Rushton said he forgave him and would not hold it against him despite the damage.
