Board of Commissioners vote on compensation increase, facility plans
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Madison County Board of Commissioners held their April meeting today, April 15.
One topic that had some County Commission members wanting to speak their mind was the resolution to increase the compensation of the Board’s County Commissioners within the Jackson Madison County School System, effective on September 1st, 2026.
Commissioner Tony Black, representing District 2, proposed that a wage study be included.
A roll call was held for members to vote on the amendment to the resolution where 16 members voted yes, and 7 said no.
Another interesting topic was the future use of 310 North Parkway, formerly known as the Jackson Madison County Board of Education.
We spoke to District 4 Commissioner Gary Deaton, who said the school board relocating is a good move.
“They’ve been in that transition for sometime now, moving in the Old Madison Building, so that’s where the education department will be,” said Deaton.
Deaton explains just how important this change is.
“It will also give us space that we desperately need in the county. It allows us to create a county garage, it will give the County Commission a home of their own. The Elections Commission can move in with all the room that they possibly need,” said Deaton.
JMCSS Attorney, Dale Thomas, said they are talking about a MOU, an agreement between two parties, with Madison County.
“The plan for the MOU is to try to come up with a plan for the future use of North Parkway and that’s what the MOU is all about,” said Thomas.
The former Madison Academic High School building is being renovated at this time.
The hope is that the administrative office and other consolidations with the county will be in one space.
