Mercer Brothers Funeral Home named Veteran Business of the Month

WTVC is honored to share the 2024 April Veteran Business of the Month: Mercer Brothers Funeral Home.

Mercer Brothers Funeral Home was founded in 1973 in a 2 room house on Hayes Street with equal shares going to Carrie Bell Mercer and her 8 sons, Marvin, Larry, Luther, Fred, Johnnie, Andrew, Jerry and Ralph. Ms Carrie Bell Mercer passed away in 2001 and only 2 years later the Funeral Home was destroyed by tornado in 2003 and rebuilt and reopened in 2004.

Carrie Bell Mercer lost her husband in a car accident while being pregnant with Ralph the youngest son of the family and never remarried after that loss.

Her 5 oldest boys joined the Military to care for their mother and ther younger 3 brothers. Marvin served in the Air Force, stationed in Germany while Fred and Johnnie served the Army in Korea and Germany, leaving Larry and Luther to serve in Vietnam, both of which also served in the Army.

Carrie Mercer was not only instrumental in the forming of Mercer Brothers Funeral Home, she raised 8 men to understand the importance of God, Family and Country. The legacy of the entire Mercer Family will always be remembered as God, Family Values, Patriotism and Love of their community.
