Crawfest returns to the Hub City

JACKSON, Tenn.—A fun atmospheric event made a comeback for all of your family and friends to enjoy eating good food.

We tell you more about one of the most tasteful events of the year.

If shrimp and crawfish are one of your must-haves, this event guaranteed to give you all of the fixings and feelings.

Presented by Town and Country Realtors, the annual Crawfest is back for the seventh year in a row.

Hosted at the Hub City Brewing, Ashlee Allison, the marketing and special events coordinator for Scarlet Rope Project, said that the event started in their directors backyard.

“So many people were coming every single year, I think around the fourth or fifth year, it started growing by 100 people each time,” Allison said.

The food was prepared by volunteers who were divided into five groups. These volunteers have cooked for the Crawfest since it first began.

Allison says that this is a great way to raise money for Scarlet Rope Project, a non-profit organization.

“We raise money to fight against human trafficking and we also house women survivors of sex trafficking, which is a lot more of a serious issue and it’s a very growing issue here in Jackson. It’s actually, in size, the second largest growing criminal enterprise right underneath drug trafficking,” Allison said.

SRP also had merchandise like sweatshirts, t-shirts and hats available to purchase.

If seafood wasn’t your thing, there were other options.

“For those seafood haters out there, we have hamburgers and hotdogs,” Allison said.

Food trucks such as Mini Donuts LLC., Congetta’s Italian Ice, and Say Squeeze were available to purchase from. Children even had activities to choose from, like playing in the sand to face painting and jumping in the jumper.

“This event compared to last year has already grown by multiple hundred people, so we’re just so thankful for this community. Our presenting sponsors is Town and Country Realtors and they’ve been with us since day one and they really help us grow this event as well, so we’re just excited for what’s to come and I’m excited for the rest of this day,” Allison said.

Allison also says that she appreciates Hub City Brewing’s owner, Jerry Corley, who is an awesome supporter of Scarlet Rope.

Allison said that about 900 people purchased tickets.
