Arts in McNairy hosts film screening, celebrates local music history

SELMER, Tenn. — One local community comes together to celebrate music history.

Arts in McNairy, also known as AIM, hosted the ‘Legacy Music of McNairy’ film screening and ‘Littlejohn Sessions Volume II CD’ release party, this evening, April 26.

The free event was held at the Latta Theatre in Selmer.

The “Legacy Music of McNairy” film was made possible by AIM and a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

The film takes viewers on a stroll down memory lane, diving into the rich history of the talented musicians in the McNairy as preserved by local historian, Dr. Shawn Pitts, and the Traditional Arts Committee.

“West Tennessee old-time music has a different flavor about it. You know there’s a lot that happens here and its important for us to promote that music heritage and for us to preserve it in some ways and that’s what tonight’s all about,” said Pitts.

Before the screening, attendees got to enjoy an old-time jam led by musicians Wayne Jerrolds and David Killingsworth from the film.
