Teen charged in north Jackson vehicle break-ins

JACKSON, Tenn. — Police arrested a teenager accused of breaking into vehicles in north Jackson.

dariuscurrieDarius Trevon Currie appeared Monday in Jackson City Court. The 19-year-old faces 11 counts including theft, burglary and drug charges. He is accused of breaking into multiple vehicles earlier this month.

“I’ve never been broken into, never had anything like this happen, so it is kind of a shock,” Jon Joyner, a victim, said.

Joyner said someone broke into his truck on Wyndchase Drive. Police said Currie admitted to stealing Joyner’s debit card and a gun valued at more than $600.

Investigators said Currie got away with everything from debit cards to electronics in vehicles on Northwyke Drive, Doubletree Cove, and Jacob Street.

Police said Currie also took an iPad, which the victim tracked down using a locator app. “We already had him as a suspect in other cases like a fraudulent use of a credit card, so he was already on our radar,” Jackson Police Department Lt. Jeff Shepard said.

Shepard said all of the victims left their vehicles unlocked. “Please lock your car doors,” he said. “Don’t leave your garage door open.”

Joyner said he learned his lesson. “I went out and bought alarms for the outside of the house, for the inside of the house,” Joyner said. “I’ve got cameras up. It’s just been a wake-up call.”

Investigators said Currie could be responsible for more break-ins and possibly face more charges.

Currie is being held at the Madison County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bond. He is due back in court Nov. 23.
