City to host inaugural Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration

City of Jackson, TN to host inaugural Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month Celebration
Performances will be held each Friday in May (excluding Memorial Day Weekend) at 4:00 p.m. 

JACKSON, Tenn. – The City of Jackson will celebrate Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month during the month of May this year at City Hall by showcasing visual and performing art from members of  the city’s AAPI community. 

“The City of Jackson, TN honors and uplifts the vibrant contributions of our Asian American & Pacific  Islander community,” said Mayor Scott Conger. “We embrace the rich diversity of our city as we  celebrate AAPI month with this inaugural event at city hall.” 

The month-long celebration will open with a proclamation from Mayor Scott Conger and feature  Opening Ceremony speaker Dr. Sandra Dee, and a dance performed by Dr. Nivedita Prasanna. 

In addition to the visual exhibits, which will be on display throughout the month of May at City Hall,  Asian American & Pacific Islander culture will be celebrated in the performing arts as well featuring music and song. 

AAPI Heritage Month Live Performance Schedule (all performances will begin at 4:00 p.m.): 

  • Friday, May 3: Opening Ceremony / Reading of the Proclamation by Mayor Scott Conger / Dr.  Sandra Dee / Dance by Dr. Nivedita Prasanna 
  • Friday, May 10: Song – Tanishi Sorker / Dance – JerieJoy Broadway 
  • Friday, May 17: Song – Maria Teresa Castro / Dance – Dr. Natasha Gupta & Navya Parashar
  • Friday, May 31: Guitar and Song- JerieJoy Broadway / Flute – Catherine Cheng
