Milan Police Dept. holds first ever coat drive for kids
MILAN, Tenn.-The Milan Police Department is helping to keep kids warm this winter.
The department hosted its first ever coat drive. Organizers said a total of 67 children signed up and each one got a coat, hat and gloves.
Organizers with the police department put the whole event together in just 3 weeks so they could give out the clothes before the weather gets even colder.
They said the effort really brought the community together.
“The whole department got on board with it, the officers went out on their own and purchased coats, they went out and reached out to people in the community and people at the businesses and gotten donations and brought them back,” said Amber Pierce, organizer of the coat drive.
The department said they plan to make this an annual event.
