Around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Brownsville police arrived at Tisdale Street for a reported shooting.

“They located 16 shell casings,” Brownsville Assistant Police Chief Kelvin Evans said. “Second call came in, we had a victim.”

Javonte Jarrett, 21, was shot twice, once in the leg and the forearm and had to run through an alley to escape.

“Shooting started, he ran to get away from the guys that were after him,” Evans said. “He advised us it was approximately six back males dressed in black.”screen-shot-2016-11-17-at-5-17-27-pm

Jarrett had to be airlifted to Regional One in Memphis where he is now in stable condition.

Police say there are persons of interest but that no one is in custody. Although the shooter’s motive isn’t clear, the victim says this was a robbery.

With crimes like this happening within the city limits, Brownsville police have invested in new technology that may help solve this shooting and other crimes in the area. Police have a new city watch camera to observe high crime areas and also a drone that can fly above crime scenes.

Even with the new technology, police say they won’t solve every crime without help from the community.

“We just encourage people to call,” Evans said. “I mean, 16 rounds. We know somebody at least saw something.”
