A map created by grilling and BBQ site cookoutnews.com, based on both Google Trends data and geotagged X data in the last month, shows that Tennessee is the top state interested in cooking and eating cicadas.

The map shows that most cicada eating interest is within the region in which the two “broods” will emerge.

The top 10 states interested in eating cicadas are:

1. Tennessee
2. Illinois
3. Missouri
4. South Carolina
5. Alabama
6. North Carolina
7. Wisconsin
8. Georgia
9. Arkansas
10. Kentucky

According to an article by Food Network, when properly prepared, cicadas are typically safe to eat — but they may not be for everyone, such as pregnant/lactating women, young children, and those with shellfish allergies.
