Recent shots fired reports in midtown Jackson leave residents concerned
JACKSON, Tenn. — Local residents raise concerns about recent shots fired reports near their homes in midtown Jackson.
The sound of gunshots could be heard recently captured on a resident’s security camera off Northwood Avenue.
According to Jackson’s Police to Citizen resource — a website that provides access to public police reports along with many other items of interest — over the past few weeks in the midtown and Lambuth areas, there have been multiple reports of gunshots.
Residents reached out to us to see if we could find out any information.
Although we did not receive detailed information about each incident from law enforcement, we did reach out to City Council members.
“First of all, I would like to thank them for being concerned, and I want to apologize that they are dealing with that type of issue,” said Councilman Johnny Dodd. “I want to reassure them that I work very closely with our police department and we are doing all we can to get it under control. We probably never going to stop it, but to get it under control.”
Councilman Dodd recommends to take down license plates of suspicious vehicles in your area, and if you see something, say something.
“I encourage people anytime they see something that does not look right, go ahead and call the police,” Dodd said.
Dodd also says this is more than the police’s job. It is a community effort. With the community working together to report these incidents, lives could be saved.
“There are other safe things that we can do like neighborhood associations, and other organizations, that we can work together to collaborate and work within the community to do preventative things,” Dodd said. “Neighborhood watches, neighborhood community meetings, and a lot of them have Facebook pages that they share things, I think that is great.”
You can also contact any public official or law enforcement officer if you want to remain anonymous.
