Police pursuit ends with suspect arrested and a deputy injured
ALAMO, Tenn.– A police pursuit in West Tennessee led to an officer injured and a suspect behind bars.
A chase occurred earlier today in Crockett County. Sheriff Troy Klyce with the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department said Deputy Logan Pitt and K-9 Wren were conducting drug interdiction on Highway 412 when they found a vehicle with no license plate and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. However, the suspect refused to pull over.
“(He) ran through multiple fields, back out on 412, then right down Cavalier Drive in front of the sheriff’s department and then by the high school here, then the field behind us and we eventually caught him back there,” said Crockett County Sheriff, Troy Klyce.
In the field across from the Crockett County Middle School, the suspect bailed out of his still moving vehicle and a brief foot chase ensued. A deputy injured his leg during the chase.
“We don’t know if his leg is broken or what’s happening but it sounded like a serious leg injury and he was transported by ambulance to the hospital,” said Sheriff Klyce.
It was during this chase, K-9 Wren tracked the suspect down to a ditch and flushed him out to a nearby road.
The suspect, identified as Julian Rogers, 33, of Ripley, was taken into custody without incident.
“So right now, we’ve got numerous charges, several felonies, of course driving on a revoked,” said Sheriff Klyce.
Because the deputy was injured during the chase, Sheriff Klyce says that’s an enhancement to felony evading arrest. Rogers’ arraignment is set for Thursday at 9 a.m.
He’s being held at the Crockett County Jail on $250,000 bond.
