Strawberry festivities continue as Jr. Floats Parade rolls through
HUMBOLDT, Tenn. — It’s the fifth day of the 86th Annual West Tennessee Strawberry Festival.
More than 70,000 residents come out to celebrate the week-long festival that spans nine blocks in the City of Humboldt.
“It’s awesome. It’s one of those gems; You always want to come check it out,” said attendee Jeffrey Young.
The festival features pageants, a carnival, music, fireworks — and Thursday morning brought the Junior Floats Parade. It’s a long-time tradition that some residents have been attending for years.
“Since I was a kid,” Young said. “I’ve actually been on one float, one year myself. So this is something we all come to. Everybody comes out for this one.”
Many people were lined down Main Street to watch the Junior Floats Parade.
The parade featured young ladies who participate in a variety of pageants throughout the week, with their fully decorated and hand-pulled floats.
“I liked it because I got to see all these people,” said Junior Hostess Princess Georgia Shelton.
There were also a variety of floats with young children representing their communities.
“It consists of Gibson County and local communities, bands, floats, parades, and West Tennessee,” Young said.
As for Shelton, her strong will and love for others brings her a lot happiness this time of the year.
“Seeing all the community come over here and enjoying themselves,” Shelton said.
Entertainment Thursday evening features 12 South Band at 7 p.m. on Main Street.
And another great thing about the festival:
“Food! Love the food,” Young said. “I love the energy of the people. It’s something we are always waiting for every year.”
The Grand Floats Parade will hit the streets Friday morning, and the festival will wrap up Saturday, May 11.
