ComeUnity Cafe celebrates 3 years with special dinner for volunteers
JACKSON, Tenn. — Marking three years of work at the local ComeUnity Cafe, volunteers were treated like guests Tuesday night with a dinner.
During the past three years, more than 2,500 volunteers have joined the cafe’s work, with the help of nearly 15 volunteers every day.
Local helpers wrap silverware in napkins, wash dishes and make sure the floor is mopped each day.
“Tonight is reverse. All of our volunteers, they don’t have to do anything,” said Andrea Hudgins, director of community development with ComeUnity Cafe. “We’re showing them our appreciation by feeding them dinner without having to mop the floors or wash dishes.”
The ComeUnity Cafe has only two to three paid staffers. Close to 60 volunteers were served at Tuesday night’s sit-down dinner.
