Stabbing suspect dies after officer involved shooting

officer-involved-shootingJACKSON, Tenn. — TBI Special Agents are investigating the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting in Jackson Thursday around 12:45 p.m.

Preliminary information indicates the suspect, Don Fitzgerald White, 45, was being treated at Pathways Behavioral Health Services in Jackson, when he stabbed a female employee with a knife several times. Two officers from the Jackson Police Department initially responded to the scene, when the situation escalated at least one of the officers fired his weapon at White. He later died at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
The woman who sustained injuries in the original attack is currently undergoing medical treatment at Regional One in Memphis. White’s body will be taken to Nashville for an autopsy.
The TBI has multiple Agents investigating this incident, along with a team of forensic scientists. Throughout the investigative process, findings will be submitted to the District Attorney General for his further review and consideration. The TBI does not identify the law enforcement officers involved in these types of incidents and instead refers questions of that nature to their department(s).
