Injured father dies after 2 children killed in house fire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – A father critically injured in a mobile home fire in suburban Nashville that claimed the lives of his two children has also died.

Multiple news outlets report that Metro police say 28-year-old Luciano Mejia Sunun died at a hospital Sunday from his injuries in the Dec. 2 blaze.

His children, 5-year-old Christopher Meija-Hernandez and 2-year-old Lujana Mejia-Hernandez, were also killed in the early morning fire.

A fourth person, 29-year-old Francisco Jesus Cabrera, who was also injured in the blaze, told investigators he was woken up by a smoke detector, but officials say they have not found any smoke alarms in the debris.

Cabrera remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Fire department spokesman Brian Haas says an investigation found the fire was accidental and caused by an electrical issue within the home.
