Firefighters teach elementary students about safety
HENDERSON COUNTY, Tenn. — Firefighters visit elementary school students to teach them about fire safety.
Henderson County Fire Department first responders talked to first and second graders Friday morning at Pin Oak Elementary School.
The first responders talked about how to get out of your house if it catches fire and told them to get out and stay out.
They also put on their turnout gear so kids would know what they looked like and showed off their fire engines.
“We’re wanting all children to know about fire safety, making sure they have smoke detectors in their home, the importance of that, knowing what it means to get out and stay out, knowing what it means to stop, drop, cover their face and roll, protecting themselves in that respect,” Chaplain Chris Young said.
Firefighters said this is also an important time of year to be fire safe.
Real Christmas trees can catch fire because of the lights, and heaters need to be away from the walls.
