Local churches came together to put on a live nativity scene and to sing Christmas carols outside of the county courthouse.

“And its just a great time,” The Dixie executive director Lori Nolen said. “It’s a great time to celebrate Christmas and really just spend time together as a community. It gives the families time to reconnect and be in downtown all together.”

The free annual community event shut down court square to ring in the Christmas season.

“We enjoy meeting all our neighbors and friends and we enjoy seeing all the Christmas spirit that is showed in this town,” resident  Carol Pinson said.

“Its grown every year,” resident Julie Bartholomew said. “So each year we’ve been and it seems like every year there’s more and more people and more vendors and more events.”

Along with vendors, downtown shops were also open with special discounts for Saturday’s event on the square.

After the Mayor lit the Christmas trees at city hall, kids were able to take pictures with Santa and their favorite characters. But many kids were looking forward to the grand finale.

Although the annual Christmas parade spread excitement throughout the square, one girl reminded us what the holidays are all about.

“I just like being with family,” resident Johannah Dillahunty said. “The presents are nice, but I think the family is probably my favorite part.”

If you’re planning a trip to Huntingdon, Friday December 16th the Dixie is actually hosting Christmas on Broadway. That will feature all you favorite Christmas tunes. Tickets are only $15.
