Some hot holiday gift items make national recall list
JACKSON, Tenn. — Some hot holiday items land on a national recall list.
On Tuesday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission added the Orbit Self-Balancing Scooter Hoverboard to their list of recalled items.
The organization says the item sold by Evine can catch on fire. Safety experts we spoke with say if you get an item home and start to question its safety, alert the commission.
“Certainly return the item to the store it was purchased, and you should report your product to the safety commission because they will check it out,” said Susan Helms of Safe Kids Mid-South.
If you were planning on buying an outdoor gift, beware of this playground slide because of potential finger injuries.
Playworld systems says a welding defect in its lightning model can cause the sides to separate from the slide and fingers can get caught in the gap. The company says it has had reports of two amputations so far.
Madison County firefighter Don Friddle is the local contact for the Safe Kids Coalition. “If people would take the time to research the toys they may be purchasing, it may save them a little bit of heartache in the end,” he said.

Cuisinart is recalling some 8 million food processors after reports of people finding broken blades in their food. A reported 30 people have cut their mouths or broken teeth on the blades.
This is a major recall involving 22 food processor models. You can tell if you have a recalled model by looking at the blade, which has four rivets.
Popular candle maker Yankee is recalling its luminous candle collection due to threats of cuts from broken glass.
In most of these cases, the companies are offering free replacements or refunds.
