Thomas Garner, 73, of Corinth, Miss., was killed in the crash that occurred around 3:40 p.m. Wednesday on Highway 142 near Counce, according to the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

Troopers say Garner and a commercial vehicle were heading southbound and a third vehicle was northbound.

The commercial vehicle passed Garner’s vehicle in a no-passing zone and struck Garner’s vehicle, causing Garner to spin out of control, according to the THP report.

Investigators say Garner’s car left the road, hit several trees, re-entered the road and crashed into the third vehicle, killing Garner.

A passenger in the third vehicle was reportedly injured.

Troopers say the commercial vehicle did not stop and left the scene.

The THP asks anyone with information on the driver or vehicle that left the scene to call 731-423-6635.
