How to stay updated on the Northern Lights

JACKSON, Tenn. — If you missed the Northern Lights and wanted to know if they’ll make a return, there are some ways to stay in the know.

On May 10, and May 11, the night sky was decorated with the Northern Lights.

And a few residents across West Tennessee shared pictures of what they were able to witness.

This year, the sun is currently at the height of its cycle, which is why we were able to see the Northern Lights.

However, only time can tell if we will see those lights again any time soon.

For those who missed it, there are a few apps and websites to be alerted on other spottings or to share your sightings.

“NASA has a challenge called ‘Aurorasaurus’, cute right? It’s ‘Aurora’ with ‘Saurus’ at the end, dot org, it’s where you get it and you can sign up for that and that will give you alerts when it’s happening,” said Holley Wood, Coordinator of the Planetarium for University of Memphis.

The University of Memphis at Lambuth has light shows at their planetarium on Tuesday and Friday evenings beginning at 5:30 pm.
