JACKSON, Tenn. – A group of Rose Hill Middle School students are getting geared up for the next big step in their life through a 6th Grade Transition Camp. “I was feeling kind of nervous because I didn’t know where to go or how much time I had,” said 6th Grader Haynes Holt. “I think the most difficult thing is going to be having to go to class in five minutes and having to do a locker and go to the restroom and just change classes,” 6th Grade Student Carson Lewis explained. With so many questions and no one to ask during the summer, students were able to take a practice walk in the shoes of Rose Hill Middle School Raider. Rose Priddy has been a 6th Grade Teacher for three years and said it is a challenge to get them out of their shell right after elementary school. “It’s very hard to get student adjusted because we have so many elementary schools that feed into our school and every school has different rules and procedures,” Priddy said. During the camp the students will be introduced to their teacher, find their classrooms, and even get help with their locker combination. “We’re in for an amazing time. These 6th graders are starting out us and we want them to go throughout the year and enjoy middle school!” said Jennifer Ballard, coordinating teacher at Rose Hill Middle School. From this camp, both the students and parents are getting geared up to succeed and build confidence. Nancy Phillips is the grandmother of a sixth grader at Rose Hill and said she likes to spend time with her grandson. She is also new to the middle school and said she was extremely pleased with the camp. “I’m very comfortable it has a good layout and everyone is so friendly and so nice I think it will be a great year!,” said Phillips.
