Tyler Spann 5K Glow Run held in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Tenn.—15- year-old Tyler Spann died two years ago on a family trip.

Today, family, friends and community members gathered to honor him in a way that glows.

The Tyler Spann Foundation, along with the Henderson County Chamber hosted the Tyler Spann 5k Glow Run at Beech Lake.

Being that Tyler died on a family vacation due to drowning, his mother, Angela Spann along with his father, wanted people to be educated on water safety.

The event provided swimming lessons along with educating people of the warning flags of poor beach conditions.

The proceeds from the 5k will go toward a life vest borrow station.

“Tyler was an athlete and he was super fast and it was a way to get the community involved in it. Most of his friends, who are also athletes in high school, are here as volunteers. There are over thirty of them. We’re just excited about just getting the whole town involved in providing water safety, providing life vests, and providing a future for our children by educating them,” Spann said.

Performances by LOLO and the group “Indecisive” were held at Beech Lake for this event.
