Witnesses take the stand to testify in Swift murder trial

FURTHER COVERAGE:

DRESDEN, Tenn. — After hearing from the investigators earlier in day two of the trial, this afternoon we had the opportunity to hear from a few witnesses in this case. Here’s what they shared.

“It was right at dark, he was talking to him, you can see him using his crutches while he was talking. After he got done talking and they went in the house, he just walked like he didn’t need crutches anymore. I thought that was strange,” said John Hogshooter, neighbor of the Swifts.

On October 30th, 2011 David Swift was brought in for questioning while using crutches mentioned by Hogshooter.

Hogshooter later shared that he saw swift carrying a 5 gallon bucket some time later

Hogshooter is one of the many witnesses that was called to the stand Wednesday.

Another witness, Brian Lee, says he saw Karen Swift the day before her disappearance.

“Were you at the Halloween party on October 29, 2011 at the farms?,” asked the prosecuting attorney. “Yes,” said Lee.

“Ok, did you see Mrs. Swift there?,” asked the prosecuting attorney. “Yes she was there,” said Lee.

“Ok, was mister Swift there?,” the attorney asked.  “I never saw him,” Lee stated.

“Ok, what did you see Mrs. Swift doing when she was at the party?,” asked the attorney. “She was just having a good time like everybody else and mingling and dancing,” said Lee.

Lee mentioned during his time at the party he didn’t notice anything different or “off” about Karen.

Later, Tennessee State Trooper, Jason Page was called to the stand to testify.

In 2011, he was conducting a missing person search.

While searching for Mrs. Swift, he says he discovered some evidence.

“I found two cellphones in the abandoned lot that I thought were odd,” said Page. “Okay what did you do when you saw those cell phones?,” asked the attorney.

“I just contacted the sheriff’s department who was head of the investigation. They came down and–,” said Page.

“They took it from there?,” the attorney interrupted.

“They took it from there. Cause we were searching for a missing person at that point,” said Page.

The jury was able to hear testimonies from each witnesses this afternoon.

The trial will continue on Thursday at the Weakley County Courthouse.
