Jackson Symphony hosts free concert at local library
JACKSON, Tenn. — Each year, the Jackson Symphony provides a free concert series to the citizens of West Tennessee.
“This year, Sherry Freeman, the director of the symphony, was able to get a sponsor for us through Simmons Bank to do this again here at the library. We are so excited to have the symphony here performing,” said Shayne Plunk, adult services manager at the Jackson Madison County Public Library.
Plunk told us that this is the second year that the Jackson Symphony has held their community concert series at the library.
“We have a good relationship with the interpreters of ASL from Jackson Center for Independent Living and we ask them to go on and come and interpret for us today so that we could allow our deaf and hard hearing patrons to come in and to enjoy the concert as well,” said Plunk.
Symphony Director, Sherry Freeman said that this started as a necessity during Covid.
She said that they were pushing to give musicians the opportunity to play and people the opportunity to enjoy music.
“They took off after that. We’ve done more than 65 of them now all throughout West Tennessee, so we’re excited today to be here at the Rotary Park in downtown Jackson. Tonight, we will be at Dynamix in Milan,” said Freeman.
That event took place at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Sabrina Laney Warren was the selected lead vocalist to kick of the concert series at the library.
“I love the opportunity to do and perform live music for the community and West Tennessee, and see all the children especially, and just introduce them to instruments and another genre that they might not be familiar with. It’s really wonderful,” said Warren.
