DRESDEN, Tenn. — It is the second week and the sixth day of trial in the case of The State of Tennessee versus David Swift.
Swift is accused of murdering his wife Karen more than a decade ago.
The defense presents their case in the murder trial Tuesday, bringing multiple witnesses to the stand.
We heard testimonies from two children of David and Karen swift.
Daughter, Ashley Swift, who was 9 years old at the time, recalls the night before her mother went missing.
Ashley stated she did not hear a struggle between her mother and father.
Son, Dustin Swift, also testified that he went looking for his mother in the early days when she was reported missing.
He stated he observed a man with a metal detector, near the cemetery where Karen’s body was eventually found.
“He said he had lost his watch and if I’m not mistaken when I looked down he’s got a watch on his wrist. I thought it was very odd but I told him my mother is the one that is missing so if you see anything be sure to tell somebody,” said Dustin.
Dustin states he told investigators in an interview several months later about this incident.
“So you didn’t think it was very important then?,” asked the prosecutor. “No sir I believed my mother was still alive,” responded Dustin.
“Even after your mother was found in December, you still didn’t tell anyone did you?,” said the prosecutor. “No sir,” answered Dustin.
“And seven months later you decided to tell someone?,” asked the prosecutor. “Yes sir,” Dustin answered.
The state reviews an initial statement from Dustin that said he had a deja-vu moment and remembered this man.
The state points out that initially Dustin did not know this man until after a conversation with his father and was shown a picture of Darrell Sells being interviewed on the news.
There have been multiple allegations that the Sells family was somehow connected to the 2011 unsolved murder of Karen Swift.
