Jury finds David Swift not guilty of first degree murder

UPDATE: ‘Not guilty’: Jury returns verdict on Swift murder charge after day and half of deliberation

DRESDEN, Tenn. — The jury in The State of Tennessee vs. David Swift has found Swift not guilty for the highest offense, first degree murder. According to our crew on scene, the jury has not come to an agreement on all charges, and the court is declaring a mistrial.

Swift was indicted on premeditated 1st degree murder charges in 2022, more than a decade after his wife, Karen Swift’s body was found by hunters near a Dyersburg Cemetery. A trial has been underway since last week at the Weakley County Courthouse in Dresden.

Jury deliberations began Wednesday and continued into Thursday afternoon.
