Committee seeks to make fireworks legal again in Madison County
JACKSON, Tenn. — One local committee met to discuss a new ordinance to sell fireworks.
The Madison County Commission voted prior to Wednesday to repeal the act of 1949 that made fireworks illegal in Madison County.
Chairman of the County Commission, Jeff Wall, stated that Representative Chris Todd and Senator Ed Jackson helped the commission to repeal this act on the state level.
Some representatives present discussed their feelings on the type of fireworks that are sold at stores like Walmart.
Sheriff Weiser also discussed how they get an overwhelming number of calls during the holiday because of fireworks.
“We are collaborating with the City of Jackson who also is interested in doing the same thing. Whereas the City of Jackson will be able to create ordinances based on fireworks sales as well as use in the city limits. We’re going to do the same thing by Private Act on the county side with fireworks,” said Wall.
There were no decisions made today.
