‘Game of Their Own’ coming to Rockabillys Stadium June 18

Jackson, Tenn. – Fifty women from over 10 states and Canada will suit it up in the first Game of Their Own at Rockabillys Stadium on This Tuesday, June 18th at 7:00pm. These women come from a varied background of their love the game and their love of the movie, A League of Their Own. They represent a mix of generations but will come together for one night to represent the Rockford Peaches and Racine Belles.

“We had the idea of offering this game as a tribute to the women who played the game, that inspired the great baseball movie. A League of Their Own. We were amazed at the response we had from women who wanted to be a part this game. Initially, we had over 170 women express interest in trying out for the team”, said Dennis Bastien, Rockabillys President and General Manager.

Corinne Bouchard, who will play first pitch and possibly pitch, is flying in from Somers, Connecticut to be a part of the game. “I wanted to be a part of this to in some way represent the ladies that originally played! I have met a few of the ladies and their stories are amazing!, said Bouchard.

As a social studies teacher, softball player, and coach, I wanted to be part of something that represents a pivotal moment in history. I also wanted to influence the community by helping bring something new and exciting to Jackson, said Whitney King, from Jackson.

The uniforms represent the Rockford Peaches and the Racine Belles as they were presented in the movie. The game will be played with baseballs, wood bats and 90 foot bases. Players will arrive in Jackson for a practice Monday evening.

Game time is 7:00pm with the gates opening at 6:00pm. Ticket sales have been strong for the game but are still availabe at www.rockabillysbaseball.com or at the stadium.
