Weed Tour: Annual field day teaches research-based solutions
JACKSON, Tenn. — A field presentation brings participants out to get a closer look at the process.
The West Tennessee AgResearch and Education center held their annual Weed Tour.
This allowed participants to split up into two groups and observe 40 weed management tests in cotton, soybean and corn.
UT Extension Weed Specialist Larry Steckel, along with Blue River Technology Specialist Lauren Lazaro, led guests on the tour explaining the process.
The tour included demonstrations of a tractor-mounted see and spray test system from John Deere.
There were also discussions of how to manage threats to their crops.
“This field day is about technologies,” said Tom Mueller, Professor in Plant Sciences at University of Tennessee. “To maximize yield with the minimum environmental impact but still maintaining profitability for the farmers, because agriculture is a tough business. So we are here to support the farmers of Tennessee and the United States.”
This tour has been going on for over 10 years.
