Milan woman found guilty of attempted voluntary manslaughter, aggravated assault
PRESS RELEASE FROM DISTRICT ATTORNEY GENERAL FREDERICK H. AGEE:
On Tuesday, June 18, 2024, Nicole Cornforth of Milan was found guilty in Gibson County Circuit Court by jury trial of attempted voluntary manslaughter and aggravated assault.
Cornforth was indicted on December 4, 2021, for attempted second degree murder and aggravated assault on a Gibson County Sheriff’s Department correctional officer.
Judge Clayburn Peeples will sentence Cornforth on September 16, 2024, and she is facing up to 6 years in the Tennessee Department of Corrections.
“We will hold defendants accountable that assault our law enforcement and correctional officers,” said DA Agee. “Our office will ask Judge Peeples to sentence the Defendant to serve 6 years which is the maximum for these convictions and the Defendant’s range under state sentencing guidelines. Also, we will request that she be required to undergo mental health and substance abuse treatment. We want to thank the Victim for her service as a correctional officer and for seeing this case through until the end. Correctional Officers have a tough job, and we are so thankful for those that are willing to serve in this capacity.”
This case was prosecuted by Assistants District Attorneys Nina Seiler and Holden Kirk.
