Local artists unveil new mural near downtown Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — Residents of the community now have another work of art to remind the Hub City, as well as travelers, of what we have to offer.
Partially funded by the City of Jackson’s ‘Love Your Block’ program, a mural now sits on the side of Sherwin Williams Paints and Hub City Blueprint and Company’s building.
Sarah and Jonathan Cagle said that they were inspired to paint several businesses into one mural.
“It takes hours and hours, probably over 100 hours to design it. And then, it took us about two weeks to paint it,” said Sarah.
Sarah said that her husband Jonathan did a lot of the prep work and then they both came together to paint it.
“We both talked about it a lot, about what Hub City represented and different parts of Jackson. The train was part of the history of Jackson and then this is beside Sherwin-Williams too, so we wanted to highlight their paint. Every color that we used, we made a paint swatch,” said Sarah.
“We’ve got Cypress Grove on there and the trees next to Casey Jones , and the Amphitheatre,” said Johnathan.
The Cagles said they wanted this to be the ‘Hub City’s blueprint’ since they did it for Hub City Blueprint.
“A family of artists, so, Patrick loves to make comic books, Marley loves to draw and we love to draw, our moms an artist, and my sister is a graphic designer. So we just have art in our genes,” said Johnathan.
Patrick Cagle, the artist’s oldest son, had a few words to say about the work his parents have done.
“Mom and dad did a really good job on the mural. It’s, you know, like home away from home. Also, to Moe Shamell, happy late birthday!,” said Patrick.
The Cagles say they appreciate the city of Jackson and everyone that voted for them to have the ‘Love Your Block’ grant.
