Bible lectureship draws thousands to Freed-Hardeman University
HENDERSON, Tenn. — Students of all ages are on Freed-Hardeman University’s campus this week, but it’s not your typical week of class. For many, this week is a tradition.
“For people who have been coming for years, this is a family reunion,” lectureship director Doug Burleson said. “I think a lot of people are genuinely interested in being better Christians or better servants and just trying to be useful.”
For 81 years, the Bible lectureship has evolved and now offers tools for teens, Spanish-speakers, those in the ministry and especially college students.
“It’s something where we can focus on our spiritual life, and then for elementary education majors we get some extra practice with the kids,” Megan Hyde said. Hyde is a junior majoring in elementary education.
Hyde uses this opportunity each year to develop her skills in her major, but she says there’s something for everyone.
“There are a lot of new people coming to campus that have never spoken before on different issues that are very current to today,” Hyde said.
Burleson hopes people around the world will benefit from this week, “We just want people to be challenged and be encouraged and to leave feeling confident about the future, not because of what we can do but because of what God can do.”
