Tire maintenance tips to be aware of before traveling this summer
JACKSON, Tenn. — Before you begin packing for your summer vacation, here are some tips to make sure that trip rolls smoothly.
It’s National Tire Safety Awareness Week.
One tip is to make sure you’re up to date with your tire rotation and to have your tire checked.
Experts say that early in the morning is the best time to make sure that the tire pressure is correct.
Another tip is using the ‘penny test’ by placing a penny on the tire to check the tire tread depth.
In the heat, older tires may cause accidents if not probably cared for.
“Cause they are made out of oil and there is a lot of oil material in there. They do actually age very similar to a rubber band. When you get a rubber band all the oils are dried out so you can basically just peel that apart. So we recommend replacing the tires after 6 years so you don’t have any failures or anything like that so our customers can be safe,” said Alex Ratchetts, store manger for Discount Tire.
Experts also share to check your tire pressure once a month.
