MADISON COUNTY, Tenn.—Hundreds gathered in Madison County  to celebrate what the holiday is all about.

“The couple of days leading up to this event all the guys get together we get out here drive the rebar once it’s finished, the flags up and today everybody shows up its awesome,” Jacob Fitzhugh, with Madison County Fire Department shares.

Fitzhugh was happy with the outcome of Thursday’s Firefighters Freedom Festival.  Guest were able to enjoy live music food vendors.
From traditional barbeque, to fresh squeezed lemonade. The Beach Bum Snack Shack brought tacos and pineapple bowls to the festival.

“We have had a great turnout this year there’s a lot of people here we have enjoyed every minute of it the weather is hot but we’re surviving,” Sara Martin, owner of Beach Bum Snack Shack, adds.

Freedom Festival event Coordinator Kim Turner says why she loves this event.

“My favorite part actually is the families. Seeing them make memories with their families and watching the kids have a blast and we wanted to make sure that no matter what demographic financially they were that everyone could have an opportunity so that’s why we keep this event free every year,” Turner, administrative staff with Madison County Fire Department says.

For some firefighters say this was their first year working this festival.

“Being a firefighter, an EMT,  you know it’s all about the people the community. So that’s the first thing we come to. Its been very awesome and a very good experience for my first time doing this and I’m looking forward to doing it again,” Treveon Johnson, with Madison County Fire Department,  shares.

Children also had lots of fun rides and face painting to enjoy.

“Well I’ve only rode one ride and it’s the ball thing I don’t know what you call it,” Josaelyn, a happy attendee shares.

The grand finale of the Firefighters Freedom Festival was the crowd favorite, the fireworks show.
