Local genealogical society meets to explore the rich music history of World War II
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Mid-West Tennessee Genealogical Society met this evening in the program center of the Jackson-Madison County Library downtown.
Rodger Holtin of Freed-Hardeman University was the guest speaker who delivered an insightful presentation on the music of World War II.
This presentation delved deep into the rich and emotive soundscape of the wartime era, exploring how music served as a crucial element in bolstering morale and fostering unity among both soldiers and civilians.
Holtin shares why it’s important to teach newer generations about highlights of the past.
“I had a friend who was a professor who said it’s important that one generation teach the next and music and art, literature, all that stuff, from one generation to the next is too easily lost, so if it gets repeated, maybe it won’t get lost,” said Holtin.
Organizers of this event say World War II’s musical heritage honors the legacy of those who lived through this pivotal moment in history.
