Officer Chaged with Bribery
A trial date of Feb. 11, 2013, has been set for a Jackson police officer accused of bribery. Sgt. Richard McGahey was released Wednesday on $15,000 bond after an appearance before Hinds County Circuit Judge Jeff Weill on a bribery charge stemming from a May of 2011 incident. If convicted, McGahey could face up to ten years in prison. The indictment shows the 43-year-old McGahey is accused of allegedly accepting a $250 bribe to help secure a field release for a suspect. McGahey has spent more than twenty years with the Jackson Police Department. He currently has worked as a member of the SWAT team.
