Business owners voice concerns over men’s shelter during budget meeting
JACKSON, Tenn. — On Friday, July 12, city hall held their budget meeting where they heard from business owners regarding the men’s homeless shelter.
John Allen, with John H. Allen Company, shared some thoughts regarding this project.
He shared in the past that he and other business owners have tried to meet with city leaders however the meetings would be canceled.
Also he believes Jackson needs this shelter but the location can bring some concerns.
The proposed location is close to the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
He worries for what may happen. Overall, he and other business leaders are opposed to the location.
“A great increase in undesired foot traffic. Illegal activities right outside our business door. Sleeping outside our business door, using the restroom outside our business door. That’s discouraging people from coming down,” said Allen.
At Friday’s meeting, city leaders informed Allen and others that voicing their concerns is too late but Allen is glad he tried.
