Local students prepare for school year with Freshman Academy

JACKSON, Tenn. — Students prepare for the upcoming school year with an academy that not only educates but grows connections.

Incoming 9th graders of Jackson Central-Merry Early College High completed their final day of Freshman Academy.

In those two days, students were able to get to know other students while working together on projects.

Students were able to meet some of their teachers during this two day event.

Some of the projects included building a tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti, art projects, and programming robots to knock ping pong balls off of a cup.

“We’re just trying to get them thinking and get them into the mode of school. But also fun and engaging activities where they get to work together with other students that are new,” said Dr. Nathan Lewis, JCM Early College High principal.

“I enjoyed it quite a lot because I got to meet some new kids and the new teachers here. It’s a good insight to what high school will be like,” said Zoe Johnson, student.

Students were also able to express their creativity in one class by writing poems.
