Vernell Gammons

Vernell Gammons, 91, of Union City passed away 6:15 p.m. Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Obion County Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel of Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home. Brother Mike Davis will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery.

Visitation will be held at Edmaiston Mosley Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. until the hour of services Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Adam Gammons, Drew Gammons, Blake Walton, Tanner Walton, Chase Wallace and D.J. Gammons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Chad Wheatley, Brooklyn Wheatley, Caleb McClain, Conner McClain, A.J. Gammons and R.J. Gammons.

Vernell was born May 7, 1933, in Troy, daughter of the late Odie B. and Ora Ann (Lee) Sampson. She married Loyd Gammons May 12, 1951. He preceded her in death February 14, 2003. Vernell had been employed at several local nursing homes and had also been a private sitter. She was a member of Home Street Church of God in Union City.

She is survived by three daughters, Elisha Wheatley of Union City and Tammy Wallace and Penny Walton and husband Brad all of Troy; two sons, Danny Gammons and Mike Gammons and wife Dianna all of Union City; her son-in-law, Paul King of Hornbeak; her twin sister, Estelle Tippit of Ridgely; ten grandchildren, Chad Wheatley, Audrea Rudd, Chase Wallace, Blake Walton, Tanner Walton, D.J. Gammons, Adam Gammons, Drew Gammons, Chelsea McClain and Nikki Allen; fourteen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Janice King; one son-in-law, Kent Wheatley; two sisters, Zula Rodriguez and Frances Allen; and one brother, John Sampson.
