Wellpoint organizes community wellness event at Hub City school

JACKSON, Tenn. — ‘Emphasizing the importance of health and wellness.’ That was the goal of one local event held Monday afternoon.

Wellpoint hosted a free community wellness event at Jackson Careers & Technology Elementary School.

In partnership with Jackson-Madison County School Health Clinic, this free event provided the community, and especially families, with health and wellness information as well as immunization education.

Organizers say their role is to support community health for students and families and ensure access to care.

“Well, we know that when children have a medical home–when they get regular routine care and the get their immunizations, they’re healthier, and less likely to have childhood illnesses that would prevent them from coming to school. So we really want our kids to get off to a great start and be healthy and be ready to learn,” said Annette Wilson, school health director for Jackson-Madison Schools.

Along with wellness and immunization education, the event also featured food, door prizes and fun for the whole family.
