Milan prepares to open safe room if severe weather threatens

JACKSON, Tenn. — With severe weather threatening the West Tennessee area, the city of Milan is already preparing to help citizens.

The Milan Fire Department is asking folks to keep an eye on the weather. Tuesday afternoon, they made sure the FEMA safe room will be ready just in case storms come our way.

The fire chief says the safe room is an asset to have in the community.

“Should we see any threats come through or coming close to our area, we will go ahead and open it up and allow people to come in and check in,” Milan Fire Chief Steven Dillard said.

At noon Wednesday, the city of Milan is hosting a city-wide tornado drill at the FEMA safe room for severe weather awareness week.
