Closer look at crimes that happened over the weekend in Jackson
JACKSON, Tenn. — We’re taking a closer look into some of the crimes that occurred over the weekend.
We start with what was supposed to be a block party that led to a homicide in the area of Greenfield Drive and Foxlea Drive around 2 a.m. Sunday, August 18. We received new Ring door camera footage of the moments before shots were fired.
When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The victim was taken by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where that person was pronounced dead.
In the ongoing investigation of the fatal motorcycle wreck at the intersection of Casey Jones Lane and the 45 bypass, the co-owner of the mobile gas station shares footage along with his first hand account of what he says happened the morning of Saturday, August 17.
“The car comes to fill up gas from me, he was drinking and ended up hitting the biker. It was like 15 to 20 cops, ambulance–then the fire began,” said the co-owner.
Also on Saturday, a shooting at an apartment on Conger Street led to a standoff with law enforcement at Allenton Heights. After a few hours, the suspect eventually surrendered unharmed. One neighbor express that there needs to be a safe space for the children in the area.
“All this stuff that’s happening and taking place–I’m one of the mothers that’s got loved ones that got killed over the weekend– got killed two weeks ago, three months ago. But, you know something, it’s time for all this stuff to come to a conclusion and shut it down,” said the neighbor.
We spoke with the Director of Asset Management at Jackson Housing Authority who says they’ve made an effort to keep a positive influence on the children in the area.
“In Allenton Heights we are so fortunate to be in partnership with the Boys and Girls club. They are on that site there and so that’s our alternative. We have did a study and a group of concerned citizens in Jackson. The City of Jackson as Jackson Housing Authority teamed up last year in 2023,” said the director.
We’ll keep you updated on air and online as we work to gather information about the ongoing investigations of these cases.
