Union University holds ‘Festival of Preaching’ for Protestant Reformation anniversary

JACKSON, Tenn. — Union University’s celebration of the Protestant Reformation movement continues Wednesday as five speakers take the pulpit for a “Festival of Preaching.”

The festival honors the campaign that followed Martin Luther’s 95 theses, which were first posted 500 years ago.

We spoke with the university’s president, Dub Oliver, about the importance of the anniversary.

“Focusing on the scripture and salvation in Christ through faith by His grace, and that’s something we celebrate every day, but it’s great to focus on it, make it part of our attention today,” Oliver said.

Congregations from across West Tennessee are invited to take part in Wednesday’s final session, beginning at 6:30 p.m., featuring performances by local choral groups.
