Neighborhood continues Labor Day gathering tradition
JACKSON, Tenn. — The Cotton Ridge Drive residents in Madison County have started a tradition that is part of a mission to encourage the community to show up and take care of each other.
Sunday was their 5th Annual Labor Day Neighborhood Gathering.
“It brings everybody together. It lets everybody get acquainted with one another, so therefore your neighbors know this neighbor, and that neighbor, so we come as one, so that’s why we do it, just to continue to get to know one another,” said Greg Hart, neighborhood coordinator.
Despite the weather, the celebration was still a success, and that means it was still a good day.
“I’m just glad the Lord gave us a beautiful day, it was raining, we got a late start, but overall it worked out, and I’m just blessed we all were able to do it, you know,” Hart said. “We thought there for a minute it wasn’t going to happen, but it did, so I’m grateful and thankful, so I look forward to it again next year.”
Hart says he hopes it gets bigger and better every year, and the best part is being able to feed the people he cares about.
“I enjoy grilling, as everybody knows,” he said. “I love to eat and I love to grill, and so do them. It’s just coming together, having a good time, eating and having laughter.”
There’s free food, jumpers for the kids ,and camaraderie with family and friends.
Many residents of the Cotton Ridge community think that this is how they can restore hope back in the community.
