Friends of Heart hosts quarterly social in the Hub City

JACKSON, Tenn. — Friends of Heart hosted their quarterly social at The Blacksmith this Tuesday.

Friends of Heart focuses on cardiac care across the entire West Tennessee region.

The non-profit educates the community on ways they work with healthcare providers, like Jackson’s LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, to make care easier to manage.

They also visit local schools, making sure the athletic departments are informed that keeping a healthy heart for student athletes is a crucial part of prevention.

“The surrounding counties don’t have the pleasure that we have right here in Jackson, so if they have a cardiac arrest it takes a long time for someone to get to them but if we place AED’s in their area we could save lives,” said Janice Silver, co-chair.

“We’re working just to improve heart health here in town and all of our 19 surrounding counties,” said Tracey McKnight, executive director.

Over 17 lives have been saved with this program in West Tennessee.
