Educator of the Week: Caitlin Williams
It’s time now to recognize this week’s Educator of the Week, brought to you by the Tennessee Education Lottery.
Caitlin Williams is a physical education teacher at West Hardin Elementary School.
Her favorite part of being an educator is getting to play different games with the kids, teaching different things about fitness, and working together with students.
Williams didn’t originally plan on being an educator.
“I chose to become a teacher because I wanted to coach originally, and then I fell in love with teaching elementary students,” Williams said.
She has now been teaching for eight years.
Williams then shares her goals for the students.
“I hope that they can find themselves,” she said. “Help them develop love for sports, just overall fitness and just to have that sense of team.”
Williams works to create opportunities for students of various passions to work together.
“I will plan different games and I’ll add something in to help. Those that are more geared to want to learn basketball, will do more basketball things, or students that don’t usually like playing, I’ll add something in like the music,” Williams said. “I add music because they can just kinda dance if they wanna dance. If they don’t wanna play dodgeball they can always just kinda stand aside and dance and do different things and help their team by getting them the balls and different things like that.”
For future educators, Williams encourages perseverance.
“Just to stick with it and then, if you go into P.E., just make it fun and have fun too. It’s easier if you’re having fun with them and they will have fun if you’re in there with it.”
Williams shares her astonishment at her Educator of the Week nomination.
“Surprising but it was awesome. I wasn’t expecting it.”
Williams is now eligible for the Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award.
