Area High School FFA’s lending a hand to victims of flood-ravaged east Tennessee
CARROLL COUNTY, Tenn.–West Carrol High School’s Future Farmers of America and Beta Club, along with other high school clubs team up to collect resources for flooding victims in east Tennessee.
“We have a lot, I’m sure coming in. Our community’s really good about helping out. When Waverly was impacted a couple years ago, we really bonded together and sent truck loads to help them, so I have faith it’s going to come through,” said Principal Adam Douglas of West Carroll High School.
According to Ag teacher Noah Rogers, Dyer County’s FFA club and Covington’s FFA Club are the schools the started this movement.
They’re making resource drop-off’s accessible for Carroll County and surround areas.
One West Carroll student responsible for organizing this movement at her school, Hannah Fowler tells us how they got started.
“I saw a Facebook post of other FFA’s collecting fence supplies or feed or just any type of agricultural supplies to help victims that lost their farms. I texted my advisor and i was like, ‘we definitely really need to join in on this’. And so I made a post and now we’re just collecting any agricultural supplies that can help the victims, said Fowler.
Fowler says for her, this initiative really hit home.
“I come from an agricultural background and that really pulled at my heart and I really saw the need and I know that there’s a need and that we really need to meet the need and anything that we can do to help we need to do,” said Fowler.
Principal Douglas says when one town hurts, we all hurt and this effort is bringing community back into perspective.
“I hope we just continuously have truck load after truck load, ’cause they need it. Those our kids too in our state and families in our state. Just because they’re six in a half hours away doesn’t mean they aren’t Tennesseans. Help them out.. love on them..give them what they need and it’ll hopefully give them the support,” said Douglas.
